Hand tools
Hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, jack stands, and screwdrivers are commonly used by mechanics. These tools are tough. However, they are still susceptible to damage and rust caused by mishandling and exposure.
After using your hand tools, make sure you clean them properly before returning them to your toolbox. Wipe down debris and grease before storing your tools. You should also check for any damages or defects on your tools. Look for broken or cracked parts, splinters on handles and any signs of corrosion and rust. Damaged tools should be replaced or repaired as soon as possible.
Hammers, chisels or other tools used for striking can get dangerous if they aren’t properly maintained. These kinds of tools are utilized for repetitive striking. This causes the surface of their metal-head to spread and form a lip or ridge at the edges. When you use such tools continuously, the lip will thin, curl and break off.

Apply all-purpose oils to your tools to lubricate and clean them with exposed metal parts. Lightly spray your equipment and tools with oil and use a rag to wipe excess oil before storing your tools. This practice will prevent corrosion and rust on your tools.
If you have rusted tools, you can remove the rust by using quality rust removers. You can also use all-purpose oil and a wire brush to remove rust.
Power tool maintenance
Mechanics have power tools such as cordless drills, angle grinders, and impact wrenches that need more maintenance than hand tools. Mechanical and electrical parts of power tools are vulnerable to damage caused by dust, debris and power maintenance.
You should always check your power tools and wipe off grime and dust after use. Dust and grime can damage your power tools. Do a deep clean regularly using oiled cotton swabs and damp rags for hard to clean areas.
You can also use compressed air to blow into vents and crevices of your power tools to remove dirt and dust from inside the mechanic tool trailer. For power tools that use air filters, replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
